I don't know whether Cantonese and Hokkien are classified under languages.. cause in most places, they're considered a dialect. But Cantonese is debatable since it has its own writing style which is rather different from Mandarin.  So I guess I only speak 3 languages and 2 dialects if Cantonese is considered a dialect. haha

As far as I understand, Hokkien is a dialect of Min Nan, and Cantonese of Yue Hai, both of which aren't Mandarin.  I believe Hokkien, Cantonese, and Mandarin are three different languages, but that's my opinion.  I know the Chinese government would disagree

haha. I believe they're different languages too because they're as similar as the languages in the latin family but they're all considered languages so I don't see why the chinese languages need to be different.

Ahh.. They weren't that mean.  We shifted to the city area when I was 5 just so I could go to a good public Chinese school.  They put me on a bus and left me to find my way on the first day of school even when I didn't know a single word in Mandarin.  Other kids were clinging on to their mothers and crying till their eyes were red. LoL.  I was one of those rare kids they'd call a Banana *Yellow on the outside, white on the inside*.

English is my first language, but I can speak Malayalam (Indian language) and I'm currently learning French and some Italian.

Where are the Malayalam people located? America? Asia? Australia? It doesn't sound like a word from the other continents so I didn't list them.

I always thought Dravidian is an interesting language family.  It's somewhat isolated, unrelated to anything else except a possible substratum on Sanskrit.  Also, it is an agglutinative, verb-final language that mainly conjugates past/non-past.  Which you might recognize as being very similar to Japanese.  They are very phonologically different, though.
